Fillings are used for repairing broken or cracked teeth. They are also used for repairing worn out teeth. While performing the treatment, the dentist removes the decayed part of the tooth, cleans the area which has been affected before cleaning out the cavity using filling material. A filling helps in checking further decay by closing the spaces through which bacteria can enter.

When should you opt for fillings?

In case food particles and plaque stay in contact with your teeth over a long time period, then a collection of bacteria can gather and cause the release of toxins and acid, dissolving your enamel. This can happen because of the incorrect style of brushing or the type of food stuck is sweet and sticky. Gradually, the top layer of the tooth starts to become discoloured depending on the level up to which it has been weakened. Its colour will change from light yellow to dark yellow to light brown to dark-brown grey before finally becoming jet black. In case it isn’t treated at this stage, the part of your tooth will chip away and become a cavity.

What type of treatments do we offer?

At Rapha Dental Centre, we are aware that a specific type of filling may not be suitable for every patient. We determine what is appropriate for a patient by the level of repair needed, the exact area of the mouth where the filling is required and cost. Here are the types of dental fillings we use for treatment:

Gold fillings-These fillings are made of gold and can be tolerated by the gum tissues. During treatment, we cement into the place where the filling is needed.

Amalgam(silver) fillings- They are more durable but because of their dark colour are more visible as compared to porcelain or composite fillings.

Composite(plastic) resins-They are similar to the colour of the teeth. The composite resin is placed within the patient’s cavity where they get hardened.

Porcelain fillings-Also known as inlays or onlays, they are created in the lab before being bonded to the tooth. They also help in resisting staining.
